So, the long run to vacation has taken its course and, finally, I am sitting in the in-laws cabin at beautiful Emma Lake. Long time since any posts, but that was because I took some time off from singing and work kind of got in the way.
What does the rest of the summer hold? Well, this is the start of two weeks of vacation, one week in this wonderful lake front location – sandy beach, warm-ish water, great company and did I say I was on vacation??? Although this does not compare with last years marvelous european vacation it is one of those activities that refreshes the soul. Listening to my oldest son learn how to play bananagram with his Mom and her sisters, sitting beside my youngest son while I tap on my keyboard and he reads a Wheel of Time book across from his Grandma who is doing something on her tablet while all the dogs are roaming in the cabin – the definition of a summer holiday day.
Right, was going to say what is going on – well here for a week, sans one of the kids who is still minding the house and bird. During the week we may try some golf, the normal watersports and just lazing around.
Next week I get to start a temporary project called “Singspiration” (link in the title) in the evenings while getting to the honey do list – you know that front deck project, finishing the Ikea deck furniture for the back deck and maybe trying to get the master bedroom ensuite ceiling sorted out – you know all that summer work.
More on Singspiration, it is a summer program put together by Concordia college in Edmonton. Here and below is information taken from the blurbs on their website – Youth from grades 4 to 12 are invited to a week-long music camp where they will have the chance to sing with a superb conductor, meet friends from across Alberta and Canada, and participate in all kinds of fun activities.
Grades 4 – 8 will be working with Brian Wismath from Victoria BC. Brian is conductor of the Victoria Choral Society and Vox Humana Chamber Choir. His rich choral background includes work with choirs all over North America and in Sweden.
Grades 9- 12 will be working with Marni Strome, Calgary AB. Marni is conductor of the Calgary Children’s Choir and brings 27 years of children’s choir conducting experience to Singspiration. Her choirs have been award-winners in local and provincial music festivals, and have toured throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.
Adult Choir – will be working with Michael Zaugg, who has recently come to Edmonton as Artistic Director of Pro Coro Canada. You may have seen Michael perform with Pro Coro from the audience; now enjoy the opportunity to experience working with him from the choir!
So next week my nights will be reasonably filled with music again. A good warmup for the fall choral season, which I will write about at a later date. Stay tuned for some blog highlights from Singspiration too.
But this is about summer holidays at the moment – so the next question is when do we go for a swim? Shortly …
