Friday night we had a wonderful time at a BBQ hosted by the bride’s parents at their place in the mountains. We had a little work to do by building the BBQ, which had just been purchased, but that was a little fun while the commuting was done almost 30 minutes each way from Cuernavaca centro.
The brides parents run an orphanage for the Cuernavaca area and it is one of many. While they are building a bigger and better place for these unfortunate young ones they do this with scarce support and often the work of religious groups in Canada and other parts of the world. One of the buildings on the property was donated and built by a group of youths from Beulah Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta. There are a number of dedicated staff and assistants that make this place a loving haven for those that have been forgotten or abandoned by their own families. It is stunning to get a perspective on the need, but very humbling to see people like these in action to support those very young and helpless.
Nevertheless the BBQ was another good way to bond with these people who in the space of a day would be related to us through a marriage and I for one was glad to go.
