UK Calling

UK Calling

A little weird to just see that statement on a post, however that is what the concert I am singing in on June 10 is called.  It is a concert with my old choir – the Richard Eaton Singers and it is called ‘UK Calling” for a very good reason, the choir will be going to the UK in July, 2017.

We will be flying to Edinburgh on July 6 and will be on the coaches and in the churches and such until July 18, where most of the participants will fly back to Canada.

We should have around 6 concerts.  Here is the program as we will be singing on June 10:

  • Healey Willan – Lord our Governour (with organ)
  • Stephanie Martin – Ave verum corpus, O salutaris hostia
  • Ruth Watson Henderson – Magnificat (with organ)
  • Franz Josef Haydn – Awake the Harp (Creation) (with piano)
  • Felix Mendelssohn – Verleih uns Frieden (with organ),Four excerpts from Sechs Sprüche: Am Neujahrstage, In der Passionszeit (solo quartet), Im Advent, Weihnachten
  • Brahms – Geistliches Lied, Op. 30 (with organ)
  • Bob Chilcott – Gloria Last two movements (with organ): Qui tollis peccata mundi, Quoniam to solus

  • Intermission

  • Pavel Chesnokov – Spaseniye sodelal
  • Cyrillus Kreek – Psalm 104
  • Rihards Dubra – Ave Maria
  • Arvo Pärt – Bogoroditse Devo
  • Ola Gjeilo – Serenity (in Edmonton: Katherine Pernal, cello)  (on tour: David Eggert, cello)
  • Eleanor Daley – The Stars are with the Voyager
  • Mark Sirett – Ce Beau Printemps
  • Larry Nickel, arranger – Four Strong Winds
  • Dawson, arranger – Ain’a That Good News
  • Rowland Pack, arranger – Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen
  • Shawn Kirchner – Unclouded Day

Sounds as if there will be two bus loads this time – should be fun.  Margot and Liam will be coming on tour as well – so looking forward to this!

  1. Sounds like a great trip Jim. It’s nice that the RES have asked you to join them. You and Margo should have an awesome visit – will you be anywhere near your old haunts?

    Tony.

    1. Sure will, we start in Edinburgh and make our way south to York, Stratford, Leamington Spa and finally Oxford. Oxford is just 40 minutes from where we used to live. We will spend a few days with our neighbours after the tour is done.
